The Northwest Indiana Chapter of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc., was founded in 2006 by Ms. Laura Smith-Wynn and Ms. Emma Washington. The Northwest Indiana Chapter received its charter to operate as an NHBW, Inc. Chapter in 2007 and incorporated in the state of Indiana as a nonprofit corporation in 2009.
Northwest Indiana is a membership organization. As an affiliate chapter, their goal is to access the needs of the community. Develop and implement programs within the scope of the national mission to accomplish goals, and support other community-wide programs that specifically address the needs of women and their families at the grassroots level. As with all NHBW, Inc. Chapters, goals are accomplished through the mobilization of the talents of members and by working in concert with other individuals, community, and faith-based organizations, state and local agencies, schools, and businesses.
