At the invitation of Wilma Smith, Monica Patterson, Latoya Holder, Linda Carter-Brooks, Annella Gardner, Cora Booker, Yolaunda Campbell, Barbara Lafford, Coranette Stepherson, Dorothy Smith, Katina Guy, Tynisha McWright, Glenda Bradley, Frances Wilson, Tricell Lovelace, Marylan Smith, Wanda Gray, Carrie Murrell, Annette Hopgood, Brenda Hines, Tiffany Adams, Glendora Wilkerson, Denise Jackson, Janice Boston and, Tracy Moore met at the Aurora Family Service Center in Milwaukee, WI In October 2007.
After several meetings and with the votes of all who had joined, they decided to become chartered members of the National Hook Up Of Black Women Inc. on 12/7/2007, Wilma Smith was the founding President along with Doris Bruton co-founder and Monica Patterson was 1st Vice President at the time. Today under the leadership of the President, Dorothy Smith, the Milwaukee chapter continues to support the goals of NHBW by presenting forums and other programs dedicated to improving the lives of the Black families through the support of the Arts, culture, literacy and health and Human services.
