Chapter History - Cherry Hill, New Jersey

At the invitation of Dr. Rebecca Betts Butler, Dr. Naomi Phoenix, Mrs. Pelipa Shreef, Mrs. Sarah Young, Mrs. Janice Plummer and Mrs. Doris Gaines (all national associate members) met for lunch at Dr. Butler’s summer home in Whitesboro, NJ in November 1987.  After several meetings and with the votes of all their friends who had joined, they decided to become chartered members of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc.  Dr. Rebecca Butler was the founding President and Diane Hood at that time was 1st Vice President.  Today under the leadership of the President, Laticia Bailey, the Cherry Hill Area Chapter continues to support the goals of NHBW, Inc. by presenting forums and other programs dedicated to improving the lives of the Black families through the support of the arts, culture, literacy and health and human services.
